The Timeless Impact of Literature: My Top Five Favorite Books
As a lover of literature, I have a special place in my heart for some of the books I have read. Today, I am excited to share with you the top five books that have stayed with me long after the last page was turned.
A Thousand Splendid Suns
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Words alone are not enough to convey the profound impact this book has had on me. I was immersed in the story of Mariam and Laila, living through their grief and hardships, especially under the oppressive regime of the Taliban in Afghanistan. The novel evokes a myriad of emotions and a deep sympathy for the women of Afghanistan. I am deeply grateful to have been born in a free country such as India. Khaled Hosseini is truly a master of the tragic genre, and this book is a must-read for everyone, at least once in their lifetime.
The Alchemist
Pauo Coelho's The Alchemist
This book is a testament to the hype it has garnered. Paulo Coelho's narrational style is highly commendable, and the beauty of its storyline is captivating. It offers numerous life lessons that inspire people around the world. The story follows a young shepherd named Santiago on his journey to discover a treasure. The main theme of the book is to follow your dreams, for it is in this pursuit that you will find your life's purpose.
A Man Called Ove
Fredrik Backman's A Man Called Ove
What a heartwarming story! A Man Called Ove is both a comedy and a tragedy, teaching the reader the importance of love and care. This is the story of a 59-year-old man named Ove, who, after the death of his wife, attempts suicide multiple times out of a sense of loneliness and loss. However, the suicide attempts are thwarted every time due to the intervention of a new family that moves in as his neighbors. The story is so warm and touching that it feels like a hug, and it will undoubtedly leave you with a smile and some deep thoughts.
Nirmala
Chandra Sekhar Dwivedi's Nirmala
Though Premchand has written many special novels and stories, one that holds a special place in my heart is Nirmala. It is the story of a young girl named Nirmala who is compelled to marry a much older man, who is already the father of three sons. The book delves into her struggles in this new household and with her extended family. Her experiences are so relatable that you will find yourself empathizing with her deeply.
12th Fail
Anurag Pathak's and Manoj Kumar Sharma's 12th Fail
12th Fail is a life-changing read that should be in every student's or aspirant's arsenal. This book is a unique blend of fiction, motivational, self-help, and biographical genres, weaving Manoj Kumar Sharma's real-life story of clearing India's toughest competitive exam—the UPSC—into a compelling narrative. Although initially known through its movie adaptation, the book outshines the film handsomely. It is an incredibly inspiring tale that every aspiring individual should read. As a wishful thinker, I can't help but regret not having read this book in my earlier years.
I hope you find my choices inspiring and recommend these books to your loved ones. Happy reading!
