Exploring the Vast World of Music: A Deep Dive into Listening Habits and Preferences

In today's diverse musical landscape, the question often arises: what kind of music genre do you listen to, and how many hours a day do you indulge in music? As a dedicated music enthusiast, my listening habits extend beyond genre and time spent, reflecting a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of music throughout different eras and across the globe.

Understanding and Appreciation: A Journey Through Time

I believe that the beauty of music lies in its ability to transcend time. No matter the era or the genre, I find myself connecting with songs for what they represent in their historical context. This is what fascinates me about music: its evolution, its impact, and the stories it weaves through time. From the elegant rhythms of 40s post-war jazz to the rock and roll of the 50s, from the British Invasion in the 60s to the vibrant soul of the same decade, and from the 70s rock ballads to the 80s pop and 90/00s RB and rap, there is a profound connection that music establishes with listeners.

Music as a Daily Companionship

As a music lover, I have no specific range or genre; I try almost every type of music. My life is filled with music, regardless of the activities I engage in. Rock and jazz are prevalent in my day-to-day listening, but my preferences go far beyond these. From the intense melodies of bands like Within Temptation, Skillet, and Dead by April to the emerging talents of Veridia, Fifth Dawn, LEDGER, Bullet for My Valentine, and Halestorm, to the enchanting notes of Lindsey Stirling, the music world is vast and endlessly fascinating.

Diversified Listening List

In addition to rock and jazz, I am equally drawn to other genres like country with artists such as Tim and Faith, Shania Twain, Blake Shelton, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, Terri Clark, Scotty McCreery, Jason Michael Carroll, Diamond Rio, and Brooks and Dunn. Florida Georgia Line is also on my radar, alongside many others. My curiosity for new and upcoming artists and musicians drives me to explore a wide array of music, including pop, hip hop, RB, Christian, and Gospel.

Personal Music Preferences

I listen to a diverse range of music, including folk, bluegrass, pop blues, and grunge. Heavy metal and industrial music also find a place in my playlist. The operas I enjoy can span up to 3 hours a day, followed by 1 hour of orchestral classical music. I also dedicate time to solo piano and chamber music.

Music as a Constant Presence

Music is an inseparable part of my life, as 4 hours a day is the norm. It is especially significant for me as a Music Therapist. The world of music therapy is deeply rooted in the belief that music can influence emotions, behaviors, and cognitive functions. Therefore, the music I surround myself with is carefully selected to enhance this therapeutic experience. This often means I am exposed to a wide range of music daily, including southern rock, space rock, and even Folk and country music, depending on the mood and the client's needs.

Conclusion

My love for music is more than just a hobby. It is a profound connection with the past, a blend of genres, and a constant presence in my life. Music has the power to bring joy, provide comfort, and inspire new paths. Whether it's the swinging saxophones of post-war jazz, the guitars that defined the 60s, or the experimental sounds of modern space rock, music continues to evolve and captivate listeners around the globe.
