Exploring My Favorite Songs of July 2021

As I look back on the last month, my mind wanders through the sounds and memories of the songs that have resonated with me. In July 2021, I found solace in both classical and contemporary tunes, revisiting some old favorites and discovering new tracks that spoke to me in unique ways.

Gospel and Reflection

At 82 years old, I have been reflecting on the journey of life, and a particular hymn has taken center stage in my thoughts:

HAVEN OF REST

My soul in sad exile was out on life’s sea
So burdened with sin and distressed
Then I heard a sweet voice saying ‘make Me your choice’
And I entered the haven of rest. Chorus: I have anchored my soul in that haven of rest
I’ll sail the wide seas no more
The tempest my sweep o’er the wild stormy deep
In Jesus I’m safe evermore. Oh come to the Savior He patiently waits
To save by His power divine
Come anchor your soul in the haven of rest
And say ‘my redeemer is mine!'

This hymn provides a wonderful backdrop for my thoughts and reflections, reminding me of the peace and comfort that music can offer.

K-pop Embraces

No exploration of favorite songs would be complete without a look at the world of K-pop, which continues to captivate and inspire me. Here are some of my favorite K-pop tracks from the month:

TVXQ! - Mirotic

One of the most iconic K-pop tunes I love is Mirotic by TVXQ! This song has been on my playlist for a long while now, and the timeless nature of the melodic tunes and the heartfelt lyrics continue to resonate with me.

SHINee World

The group SHINee has left an indelible mark on my musical journey, and I couldn’t possibly list my favorites without including a few from their discography:

The SHINee World (Doo-bop) - I recently started to listen to this song, and it has become one of my favorites. My favorite part is when Minho sings, ‘Dibidibidis bling bling is Jonghyun’ because it reminds me of why I love Jonghyun so much. The track also features Minho boasting about his name in the lyrics. Replay - This song holds a special place in my heart as SHINee’s debut track from 2008. Its melancholic tones evoke a sense of nostalgia, making it a cherished piece for me. Ring Ding Dong - This is without a doubt my favorite SHINee song, and it has been my go-to for at least 3–4 months now. The intense and infectious nature of the song keeps me coming back for more, though my parents find it a little humorous when I listen to it so much! Hello - I don’t have a specific reason for loving this song; it just resonates with me.

Seventeen - Oh My!

Oh My! by Seventeen is a song I recently rediscovered. I was pleasantly surprised to realize how familiar it sounded after not hearing it for a year. It brings back cherished memories from my teenage years and is a great anthem that always brightens my mood.

TXT - Way Home

From the mini album minisode1: Blue Hour, Way Home by TXT is my favorite song from the album. The rhythm and blues track showcases the rap skills of the oldest member, Yeonjun, and is a welcome addition to my playlist.

NCT 127 - Boom

Boom by NCT 127 is another inspiring rhythm and blues track. The song’s hip-hop elements are what make it particularly enjoyable for me.

Monsta X - Livin’ it Up

I have been a fan of Livin’ it Up by Monsta X since 2009. The aggressiveness of the intro gives way to a softer and more mellow chorus, making it a song that perfectly encapsulates the energy of my teenage years.

These are my favorite songs for July 2021, and while I might update this list as the months progress, these are the tunes that currently hold a special place in my heart.
